Texas A&M Transfer Acceptance Rate, GPA, and Requirements

Oregon has its Ducks, Michigan has its Spartans, and Texas has its Aggies. To be an Aggie is to become part of a long and rich heritage of academic achievement, athletic excellence, and Texas pride.

Part of only a handful of universities that are classified as land-, space-, and sea- grants, A&M offers opportunities to participate in academic research in some of the most innovative and important industries of our time.

Research endeavors include projects like sea turtle habitat preservation, space life support systems, and even sustainable coffee farming!

Excellence at A&M is found both in the classroom and out on the field. A&M, like the whole state of Texas, is passionate about its football.

Students who attend will be able to experience the excitement of rooting for the university’s Division I football team and the notorious rivalry with UT’s Longhorns.

In the spirit of southern hospitality, Texas A&M isn’t stingy about sharing its unique experiences to students from all backgrounds – including transfers.

And as one of the top-rated universities for its transfer acceptance rate, Texas A&M is an excellent option for those seeking a transition into a new academic experience.

Below is more information on transferring into A&M and getting one step closer to being part of the Aggie family.

Texas A&M Transfer Acceptance Rate

In Fall 2021, the transfer acceptance rate was 52%.

Compared to the average transfer rate over the last five years for the Fall semester at Texas A&M (55%), this is a little lower than average. Still, a 52-55% transfer acceptance rate is higher than other top-tier Texas universities like UT at Austin.

To increase the chances of being part of the 50%, students who are interested in transferring to Texas A&M should start by exploring the university’s transfer information resources. Students can attend special zoom Transfer Information sessions, or even attend a session in person if they are nearby.

For those looking for a more personalized information session, the university offers time during the week to talk to Transfer Peer Mentors.

Reaching out to these departments will be an essential first step in helping students determine how to navigate the unique circumstances that transfer students face in the college admission process.

Determining residency status, finding specialized scholarships, and learning about the number of transferable credits a student can bring in are just a few of the possible topics that resources like the Transfer Student Program can assist with.

Application Requirements & GPA for Texas A&M

Transfers into Texas A&M will need at least a 2.5 GPA (based on a minimum of 24 transferable credits).

The university has a Transfer Course Equivalency tool that works as a guide to determine the likelihood of a student’s completed credits applying towards Texas A&M credit hours.

Knowing what credits are transferable is important in the application process because each student will need to apply to a particular major.

Different majors have different admissions requirements, so students must check what the requirements are for their major of interest before submitting their application.

An important note: students can select a second major to be considered for if they aren’t accepted to their first choice, but not all programs allow the second major option.

Texas A&M uses the Coalition Application or the ApplyTexas Application for its admissions process. A $75 application fee will be due at the time of the application; for those who are eligible, students can also submit a request for an application fee waiver.

Those who wish to apply for the waiver will need to submit information from their FAFSA showing they qualify for need based financial aid (i.e. Pell).

Finally, students will also need to submit their transcripts and an essay. For the essay, the university requests a Statement of Purpose.

This document should be used by students to give the university a picture of the kind of person they are, what they wish to accomplish at A&M, and any details from their life that gives greater insight into the challenges a student has overcome.

Texas A&M Transfer Deadline

For a Summer/Fall transfer, students will need to apply by March 1st.

For those looking to start in the Spring, students need to submit by October 15th.

Besides the admissions deadline, students should also prepare for other time sensitive tasks such as financial aid and special admissions programs.

For instance, in addition to FAFSA, students who are already Texas residents can apply for the states’ financial aid program, TASFA. The deadline to complete the TASFA is January 15th

Texas residents also have the advantage of participating in the Program for Transfer Admission

This pathway allows students who pursue their prerequisites at certain Texas Community Colleges the opportunity for automatic transfer into Texas A&M.

Students will need to follow strict guidelines to be eligible for this pathway, including maintaining a 3.2 GPA instead of the general 2.5 GPA for other transfer students.

What Is the Decision Date for Texas A&M?

Students applying for Summer/Fall admission will be alerted to a decision between January and March; Spring applicants will learn of the university’s decision in early December. To track an application and check admissions status, students need to set up an account in the university’s Applicant Information System (AIS).

Each program admits students on a rolling basis, so students will need to ask their program of interest when they hear back on a decision.

As mentioned above, this is especially important if students are hoping to have a second major option if they aren’t accepted into their first option.

Doing the research and reaching out to program contacts before admission will ensure that students have a clear idea of what to expect from the university at large and each program individually.

Once accepted, transfer students should take advantage of resources offered through the Transfer Student Program

This group brings together transfer students and provides resources around heath, academics, career, and more. Transfer students can even become part of the Transfer Village!

Deciding Whether You Should Transfer to Texas A&M

Choosing a college should include consideration of location, academic fit, and affordability. Conducting research into each of these elements up front will give students a leg up they need to find a school that fits them in a well-rounded way.

Texas A&M has several campuses, the flagship campus being in College Station. College Station is a town on the eastern side of central Texas and is known for being a big city with a college town feel.

Living in Texas usually means getting used to driving a long way to get anywhere, but College Station is uniquely positioned so that students have less than a two-hour drive to two of Texas’ most popular urban hubs – Austin and Houston.

Living in College Station also means having access to some of the nation’s most innovative industries, including space, agriculture, and marine life.

As a university that focuses on so many research areas, A&Mhase various academic options that offer something for almost everyone. From Ocean Engineering to Veterinary Medicine, A&M has some of the best academic programs in the nation.

A quality academic program often comes with a big price tag, but students will find that A&M is one of the most affordable universities in Texas.

With many different options to access financial aid, the university believes in offering quality education at a price that students can afford.

Veterans, in particular, will find A&M an affordable option because of the College Credit for Heros program.

There are many good reasons for transferring to Texas A&M, the famous Texas BBQ not even being among the top five.

The main question that students will have to ask themselves is are the opportunities the university offers the right fit for them.
