New initiatives in recent years, including the Georgia Tech Scholars Program, have brought record-breaking application and enrollment numbers for both first-year and transfer students. Applications have been growing steadily, with 20,000 more applications in 2022 than just five years earlier.

Georgia Tech Early Action Acceptance Rate
The early action acceptance rate into Georgia Tech is 39% for Early Action 1 (In-State students), and 12% for Early Action 2 (out-of-state and international students).
Georgia Tech offers two Early Action rounds as part of its increased focus on diversity and in-state student enrollment goals. Early Action 1 is for current Georgia high school students or students who are Georgia residents attending an out-of-state high school.
Early Action 2 is for all other students who wish to apply for Early Action. This includes all out-of-state and international applicants. Georgia students are not permitted to apply in Early Action 2.
In 2022, nearly 6,100 Georgia students applied for Early Action 1, and more than 25,000 out-of-state and international students applied for Early Action 2.
These numbers represent an increase over the previous years, and the school believes they will continue to rise for 2023 applications.
Georgia Tech received 50,601 total applications for 2022 across the Early Action and Regular Decision application rounds. Of these applicants, the school offered admission to only 17%.
It’s obvious that students who are able to apply in Early Action have a higher likelihood of being admitted.
And if application numbers continue on the upward trend, early action applications are increasingly helpful, especially for Georgia students hoping to attend this prestigious institution.
Georgia Tech Early Action Decision Date
Students who apply to Georgia Tech for Early Action 1 will hear from the school by Mid- December. Applicants in Early Action 2 will receive decisions by Late January.
For the many students who wish to start their college experience in the summer, there is no added admissions application. All students who apply for first-year admission will be considered for summer and fall terms.
The decision, application, and deposit deadlines are the same for Fall and Summer terms. The main difference is simply in financial aid, as summer applicants will need to fill out their aid information for the previous year (2022-2023) in addition to 2023-2024.
Applicants to Georgia Tech will receive one of five decisions. The first decision is Deny. These students have not been extended admittance and may not reapply in Regular Decision but may consider applying in the future.
The next decision is Transfer Pathway. For these students, though Georgia Tech is unable to offer first-year admission, they will be offered an option to complete a Transfer Pathway program at another institution and transfer to Georgia Tech in the future.
There are several different programs within this pathway and various guidelines based on student eligibility.
Next, there are a limited number of waitlist spots available. These are for students the school would like to enroll, but no space is available. This is rare for a student in Early Action and is generally only used for Regular Decision applicants.
Some Early Action applicants may have their applications deferred to the Regular Decision round. These students should submit fall term transcript and grades; they will receive a letter with Regular Decision applicants in March.
Much of the enrollment process is first-come, first-serve; if possible, students should aim to make a deposit ahead of the deadline to be eligible for the broadest selection of housing and other options.
Georgia Tech Early Action Deadline
To qualify for early action at Georgia Tech, students must apply by October 17 (for in-state students in Early Action 1) or November 1 (Early Action 2).
Georgia Students applying in Early Action 1 must complete their Common Application by October 17 and submit all required documents by October 24.
ACT or SAT scores (including self-reported scores) should be provided by November 15th at the latest.
Non-Georgia students applying in Early Action 2 must complete their Common Application by November 1 and submit all documents by November 15.
ACT or SAT scores (including self-reported scores) should be provided by January 15 at the latest.
The application and evaluation for the Early Action applicants is the same as for Regular Decision.
All students are evaluated in a holistic review process meant to identify students who will not only benefit from the learning environment but also contribute to the overall student body at Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech Early Action Deferral Rate
The Georgia Tech Early Action deferral rate was around 22% for 2019 applications. That year there was only one Early Action application round, so the percentages would vary for Georgia students and non-Georgia students in more recent years.
For students who are deferred, Georgia Tech encourages students to read the decision letter thoroughly and any emails they’ve received and not to fret. Deferrals happen based on a variety of reasons, often based more on the institution’s ability than the student’s talent.
For students who have been deferred, some work will be required, and additional information will be needed.
But Georgia Tech is clear that what is most important is to finish strong, and remember that, while it’s not the decision a student would like to receive, being deferred is not the same as being denied.
How to Apply to Georgia Tech for Early Action
Early Action applicants will go through the same process as applicants for Regular Decision. Students need to keep an eye on deadlines to ensure each required material is completed and submitted on time.
Georgia Tech uses the Common Application. This application includes personal, family, and education information and two essays.
A $75 non-refundable first-year application fee is required ($85 application fee for international students). Eligible students may apply for a fee-waiver based on financial circumstances.
Georgia Tech requires either ACT or SAT scores (writing portions are not required) of all students. Some international students may wish to submit an English proficiency test, like TOEFL or IELTS, but this is not required.
Official high school transcript(s), including final course grades for 9-11th grades, are also required. Deferred students will need to submit their 12th-grade fall grades to be evaluated for Regular Decision, and all students will need to supply final high school transcripts.
For any student who has completed dual enrollment work, college transcripts should be submitted. And any advanced placement or IB exam scores should also be sent in as part of the application, though these are not required.
Applications are evaluated for strength of educational performance, the potential for academic success, potential contribution to the intellectual climate and campus life, as well as demonstrated commitment to intellectual engagement.
